Fan Lighting

Spotlight, low light, chandelier & aurora lights

When ceiling fans were originally released on the market they were simple and relatively dull. However, over the years these products have evolved into both practical and elegant household items that feature lighting as well. Below you will find a description of the four standard styles of lighting available for your ceiling fan. Ceiling fans are designed with light fixtures in each style or you can purchase the light fixture as an after-market light kit that you can attach to a ceiling fan of your choice.

Aurora Lighting

Aurora lighting is characterized by a single light located at the bottom of the ceiling fan. This style of lighting was designed for rooms which require a primary light source. The light fixtures are often oversized and powerful enough to produce sufficient light for a large room. The actual light is available in a number of shapes and sizes, ranging from cut crystal, a variety of geometrical shapes or simple circular light fixtures for modern homes.

Chandelier Lighting

Chandelier lighting is often comprised of two or more lights arranged in a variety of patterns around a center post located at the base of the ceiling fan. Each light is covered separately with a paper, fabric, glass or crystal cover in designs ranging from the traditional cut crystal to the modern woven rattan. If choosing an after-market chandelier for your fan, it is important to remember that your fan must support the weight of the chandelier. When chandeliers are attached to the roof they have a great support system, but there is more involved when adding one onto your fan. Consult a professional to ensure that you select a style which is compatible with your fan and ask a professional to help you with the installation to ensure both the fan and chandelier are installed securely.

Spotlights

Spotlights, much like chandelier lights, come in sets of two or four lights depending on the style you need for a particular room. Unlike chandelier lighting which is used to brighten an entire room, spotlights are used to focus on a particular part of a room or object. Spotlights are often cylindrical and mounted on a rotating joint which is used to focus the light on a table, centerpiece, bar, piece of artwork, or a specific piece of furniture. The spotlight is directed on these areas in order to give the specific item or area focused attention. Spotlights are not only used in homes, but are also one of the top lighting choices for offices as well.

Low Profile Lights

Low profile lights can be used to light areas where other light sources may not be readily available. The design of low profile lights is generally very straightforward and simple - they shallow, cylindrical lights that do not protrude far from the ceiling fan. They blend in with the fan and provide abundant, low lighting which is secondary to a primary light source.

The lighting in a room can have a huge impact on the overall look and feel of a room. Moreover, the type of lighting you select will depend on the types of activities you engage in while in the room. Is it a TV room? Will you be doing a lot of reading in the room? If so, you’ll probably want a stronger light, rather than the low lighting suited to a television room. If you’re looking for a more romantic feel, you will want a softer light with less intensity. Not only does the style of light matter, the type of specialty light bulbs you choose will also contribute to the quality of light in the room.
