Fan Blades
How many blades should you have on your fan?
The number and size of the blades on the fan you choose will determine the amount of money your fan is going to cost. The length of the blades is also a contributing factor to the price. The standard ceiling fan can have as little as three blades or as many as five, depending on the preferences of the consumer and the manufacturer.
The quality of a fan is measured by the amount of air the blades can move quietly and effectively. The pitch, length, and number of ceiling fan blades contribute to the effectiveness of the fan. Blade pitch refers to the angle of the fan blade. The greater the pitch (angle) of the blade, the more air it is capable of moving. In order to receive the highest quality fan, the blade pitch should be between 12 and 14 degrees, the length of each blade should be between 30 and 60 inches, and there should be between 4 and 5 blades. Fans which meet this criterion will cost considerably more than fans which do not.
There have been a number of developments when it comes to the design and maintenance of your fans, especially with respect to your fan blades. Many individuals are unaware of the fact that fan blades can be flipped over from time to time in order to keep them looking new. The top of the fan blades collect the dust and become more worn than the underside of the blades. Once the top of the blades begin to appear dull or damaged, you can simply flip over the blades to make your fan appear new again.
Once this technique became known to consumers, manufacturers incorporated a new feature into the design of ceiling fans. Fans are now available with two completely different designs on each side of the blade. Changing the look of your room is as easy as flipping over the blades and reattaching them. Double-sided fan-blades can be found in any store which sells fans or fan accessories.
Generally, fan blades can be made from many materials: wood, metal, Plexiglas, plastic, etc. Many manufacturers will be more than happy to custom design fan blades according to the specifications of the customer.
